Our Lady of the Assumption

Who We Are

Assumption Church is a Society of Saint Pius X chapel in Walton, KY.

At Assumption Church, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated according to the 1962 Missale Romanum, also known as the Traditional Latin Mass.
"The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists. It is the Sacrifice dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, and repeated every day on the Altar. If you wish to hear the Mass as it should be heard, you must follow with eye, heart, and mouth all that happens at the Altar.

Further, you must pray with the priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ and which Christ says by him. You have to associate your heart with the holy feelings which are contained in these words and in this manner you ought to follow all that happens on the Altar. When acting in this way, you have prayed Holy Mass."
—Pope St. Pius X

The church is blessed with a priory, where there are three resident priests:
- Reverend Fr. Daniel Muscha (Prior)
- Reverend Fr. Joseph Horvath
- Reverend Fr. Timothy Sick

Our bookstore has a wide variety of Catholic literature, as well as religious articles. You will find books, missals, rosaries, art, and so much more! Please come and see the wealth of items available to help enrich your Catholic Faith! The bookstore is open immediately following Sunday Mass, and upon request during the week.

The church opened in December 2010, after several years of prayer, determination and finally, construction. It is of  neo-Gothic design, and has a beautiful altar of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The church was consecrated , Our Lady Of The Assumption, on Saturday July 16th, 2011, by His Excellency, Bishop Bernard Fellay.  Bishop Fellay blessed and consecrated the altar, and interred the relics of the saints inside the same.

There were more than 250 in attendance, and a formal sit-down dinner was served in celebration.

The altar  was originally from Assumption Church on Gilbert Avenue in downtown Cincinnati. According to a 1973 document, celebrating the centennial of Assumption Church (on Gilbert Avenue), the altar was added in 1924. It was made in Italy. The marble is generally Italian Botticino and the figures and carved panel are of white Carrara marble slightly stained to harmonize with other marble.

There are also two side altars: the St. Joseph altar and the St. Elizabeth altar.
The central panel over the main altar is a replica of Murrillo's famous painting  of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. On either side of the central panel are beautifully wrought marble figures of saints Peter & Paul, and the four evangelists, Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The addition of the altar resulted in a re-dedication of the church in March, 1927. His Excellency, The Most Reverend John T. McNicholas, O.P.S.T.M., officiated.
